1Overview
The South Korea K-ETA is an electronic travel authorisation linked to the passport; it is not a visa. It covers tourism, visiting relatives, events and conferences, and short-term non-commercial business.
Who needs it
- Visitors from visa-exempt countries must have an approved K-ETA before boarding a flight or ship to Korea.
- Citizens of 22 listed countries can enter without a K-ETA until 31 December 2026 but must submit a digital Arrival Card; India is not on that list.
- Non-visa-exempt travellers or those who plan to work or study need a visa from a South Korean embassy.
- A self-transfer or baggage re-check counts as entry and needs a K-ETA.
2Requirements
- PassportValid for at least 6 months from arrival, with one blank page.
- PhotoA recent passport photo.
- AccommodationAccommodation details.
- Email addressA valid email address.
Important to know
- Common denial causes: mismatched passport details such as typos in the passport number, blurry photos, criminal records, or previous immigration issues.
- If denied you may need a C-3 tourist visa from a South Korean embassy.
- From 1 January 2026 a digital e-Arrival Card is mandatory for travellers without a K-ETA, submitted within 72 hours before landing.
- A missing K-ETA can mean being refused boarding.
- On passports that do not separate names, the scan may put the full name in the surname field.
